Supercomputer Sahasrar
Sahasrar is one of the fastest small-scale supercomputers in India. It is housed in the premises of Centre for Modeling & Simulation (CMS), Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Performance of Sahasrar
This high-performance cluster is a collection of more than 50 computers (nodes). Furthermore, the cluster houses more than 1000 computing units (cores). The cores are connected by high-speed interconnects. They work in harmony to provide more than 50 Teraflops of computing power in this facility. This translates to a whopping 50,000,000,000,000 arithmetic operations per second!
Sahasrar Applications
The applications of this supercomputer include problem solving in areas of nanotechnology, materials for energy technology and many more. Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, funds this facility.
Tour of the High Performance Computing Facility
Dr. Bhalchandra Pujari, faculty at Centre for Modeling and Simulation (CMS), Savitribai Phule Pune University, took us on a tour of this computing facility. This video on Sahasrar, the supercomputer, was created by Khula Aasmaan for the community of children, college students, parents and teachers.
